NOMINATION PROCESS

An AWARE nominated teacher fosters a love of learning in their students, motivates their students in their classroom, and provides a positive influence beyond the classroom. To be nominated, a teacher must have completed a minimum of three years of teaching in Arlington ISD.

The winners are selected through an extensive process of classroom observation and interviews conducted by the AWARE Selection Committee. The committee consists of business, community and education leaders. The committee is screened to prevent conflicts of interest through the selection process.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is comprised of three parts:

  • Nominations
  • Classroom observations
  • Interviews

The teachers are divided into the following grade-level categories:

  1. Pre-K thru 1st Grade
  2. 2nd Grade thru 4th Grade
  3. 5th and 6th Grade
  4. Junior High
  5. High School

Each winner receives a check for $3,000 and each runner-up receives a check for $1,500.

Qualifications

Only teachers involved in classroom instruction, working directly with students are eligible. Awards are limited to actively employed Arlington ISD teachers regardless of specialty, race, color, religion, national origin, age or sex. Nominees must have a minimum of three years of experience teaching in AISD. 

Nominations may be made by students, parents, fellow teachers, administrators, or community members. Self nomination or nomination by a family member will not be accepted.
